R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Stephen K. Brown II has greatly benefited the Fort |
|
Bend County Democratic Party through his leadership as chair; and |
|
WHEREAS, Elected chair of the organization in March 2010, |
|
Mr. Brown has dedicated himself to rebuilding his party's |
|
infrastructure and increasing its base of support; and |
|
WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan has been active in politics and |
|
civic life for more than a decade; he began his career as an aide to |
|
a Houston city council member and then worked as a White House |
|
intern in the Legislative Affairs Office during the Clinton |
|
administration; after returning to Texas, Mr. Brown joined the |
|
staff of United States Representative Sheila Jackson Lee and went |
|
on to accept a position as a budget analyst for House Appropriations |
|
Subcommittee chair Sylvester Turner; and |
|
WHEREAS, Following the 76th Legislative Session, Mr. Brown |
|
pursued graduate studies in urban and minority politics at the |
|
University of New Orleans; he subsequently became vice president of |
|
public advocacy for the American Heart Association - Texas |
|
Affiliate; having guided that organization through a successful |
|
legislative session, he founded his own public affairs firm, |
|
Capitol Assets; he continued to work in behalf of the American Heart |
|
Association in his new role, advocating for health-related |
|
legislation and assisting in the organization's statewide public |
|
education initiative; in addition, he represented Houston METRO and |
|
served as the public affairs strategist for the chief executive |
|
officers of the Houston, Dallas, and Austin branches of the |
|
National Urban League; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Brown serves on the Missouri City Tax Increment |
|
Reinvestment Zone No. 3, and he is a member of the Xi Kappa Lambda |
|
chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; in all his endeavors, |
|
he enjoys the love and support of his wife, Monique Mathis Brown, |
|
and their children, Stephen and Mathis; and |
|
WHEREAS, The vitality of the political process in Texas |
|
depends on the active participation of its citizens, and Stephen |
|
Brown has set an outstanding example of civic engagement through |
|
his many contributions; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Stephen K. Brown II for his service as |
|
chair of the Fort Bend County Democratic Party and extend to him |
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Brown as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
