R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Proud citizens of Crowley are gathering on July 9,
  2011, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the city's
  incorporation; and
         WHEREAS, Pioneers first arrived in the area in the late
  1840s, settling in the region around Deer Creek, but later
  relocated to be near the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway; a
  train depot was built in 1885, and the town was named in honor of
  S. H. Crowley, a railroad official; and
         WHEREAS, In the early years, dairy farming, ranching, and the
  railroad made up the foundation of Crowley's economy; the town
  gained a post office in 1882, a school in 1905, and a bank in 1907;
  during World War II, when its population was approximately 500, the
  community set a per capita record for purchasing U.S. Defense
  Bonds; and
         WHEREAS, Crowley was incorporated on February 3, 1951, and by
  vote of the town council, it became a city in 1972; today, the
  community boasts a population of nearly 13,000, and residents enjoy
  easy access to the employment and cultural opportunities of the
  Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex; and
         WHEREAS, The "Crowley Celebration of Freedom" anniversary
  festivities include a parade, a flyover by U.S. Air Force fighter
  jets, and a parachute jump by a member of the U.S. Army's Golden
  Knights, as well as vendor booths and live music; and
         WHEREAS, Honoring their past as they work to build a bright
  future, the citizens of Crowley may indeed take great pride in their
  hometown on this special day; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 60th anniversary of the
  incorporation of Crowley and extend to the city's residents sincere
  best wishes for an enjoyable and memorable celebration.
