R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Residents of the Rio Grande Valley joined together |
|
May 1-3, 2011, to celebrate the inaugural McAllen Book Fair, |
|
organized by Oscar Moreno; and |
|
WHEREAS, The first event of its kind in McAllen, the Book Fair |
|
was held at the local convention center and featured 30 exhibitors, |
|
editorial houses, and bookstores; in addition to writers' |
|
conferences and book signings, visitors enjoyed poetry readings, |
|
storytelling, a short film and musical presentation, and painting |
|
workshops; and |
|
WHEREAS, The festival was established by Mr. Moreno in an |
|
effort to increase the reading audience in South Texas while |
|
generating a dialogue between Anglo and Hispanic communities by |
|
allowing the exchange of ideas and enriching the culture of the |
|
region; he hopes that the festival will become an annual affair; and |
|
WHEREAS, Reading can make a tremendous difference in the |
|
lives of both children and adults, opening up new, undiscovered |
|
worlds and introducing readers to experiences that they would have |
|
never otherwise encountered; Oscar Moreno has helped to share this |
|
joy with others, and his efforts have truly benefited the people of |
|
McAllen; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Oscar Moreno for hosting the first book |
|
fair in the city of McAllen and extend to him sincere best wishes |
|
for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Moreno as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
