R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Residents of the Rio Grande Valley joined together
  May 1-3, 2011, to celebrate the inaugural McAllen Book Fair,
  organized by Oscar Moreno; and
         WHEREAS, The first event of its kind in McAllen, the Book Fair
  was held at the local convention center and featured 30 exhibitors,
  editorial houses, and bookstores; in addition to writers'
  conferences and book signings, visitors enjoyed poetry readings,
  storytelling, a short film and musical presentation, and painting
  workshops; and
         WHEREAS, The festival was established by Mr. Moreno in an
  effort to increase the reading audience in South Texas while
  generating a dialogue between Anglo and Hispanic communities by
  allowing the exchange of ideas and enriching the culture of the
  region; he hopes that the festival will become an annual affair; and
         WHEREAS, Reading can make a tremendous difference in the
  lives of both children and adults, opening up new, undiscovered
  worlds and introducing readers to experiences that they would have
  never otherwise encountered; Oscar Moreno has helped to share this
  joy with others, and his efforts have truly benefited the people of
  McAllen; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Oscar Moreno for hosting the first book
  fair in the city of McAllen and extend to him sincere best wishes
  for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Moreno as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
