R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
  a close when Dr. Richard George Fadal of Waco passed away on April
  4, 2011, at the age of 79; and
         WHEREAS, Richard Fadal was born in Waco on May 29, 1931, to
  George and Katherine Fadal, and he attended Waco public schools;
  after graduating from Baylor University in 1951, he entered The
  University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas, where he
  earned his medical degree in 1955, and he returned to Waco to
  complete his medical internship at Providence Hospital; from 1956
  to 1957, he served his country as a captain in the U.S. Air Force;
  and
         WHEREAS, Following his discharge from the military, Dr. Fadal
  opened a private medical practice; during the course of his
  distinguished 45-year career, he served on the staffs of Providence
  Hospital and Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco and Holy Name
  Medical Center in Teaneck, New Jersey; he also served as the
  attending physician for the Methodist Children's Home, taught on
  the faculty of the Waco Family Medicine Residency Program, and
  worked as a consultant for pharmaceutical companies; and
         WHEREAS, A board-certified allergist, Dr. Fadal was an early
  adopter of the radioallergosorbent test (RAST), a simple blood test
  for allergies that was developed in Sweden in 1975 as a replacement
  for the common skin test; in 1978, Dr. Fadal and one of his
  students, Dr. Donald Nalebuff, made modifications to the test that
  allowed physicians to create individual treatment schedules for
  patients based on their test scores; in 1981 they received a U.S.
  patent for their system, which is known as the Fadal-Nalebuff
  Modified RAST, and they traveled extensively giving lectures on
  their methodology, which is still widely used in the medical field;
  in addition, Dr. Fadal published numerous articles in medical
  journals and coauthored a book with Dr. Nalebuff titled RAST in
  Clinical Allergy; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan was a member of the McLennan
  County Medical Society, the Texas Medical Association, the American
  Medical Association, and the Texas Allergy, Asthma and Immunology
  Society; he was a diplomate of the American Board of Allergy and
  Immunology, as well as a founding fellow and former director of the
  American In Vitro Allergy and Immunology Society and a past
  president of the Pan American Allergy Society; moreover, he was a
  fellow of the American Association of Certified Allergists and the
  American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, as well as an
  honorary fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy; and
         WHEREAS, Among the honors conferred on Dr. Fadal were the
  Aynesworth Award for Teaching and the Outstanding Faculty Member
  Award, which were presented to him by the residents of the Waco
  Family Medicine Residency Program in 2000 and 2001, respectively;
  and
         WHEREAS, When not engaged in his professional
  responsibilities, Dr. Fadal delighted in spending time outdoors; he
  especially enjoyed hunting and fishing in the company of his family
  and friends; and
         WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors Dr. Fadal enjoyed the love
  and support of his wife, Margaret, with whom he was joined in
  matrimony on January 6, 1956, at Oak Lawn Methodist Church in
  Dallas; over the years they were blessed with four children, Stacy,
  Richard, Thomas, and Michael, as well as nine grandchildren and a
  great-granddaughter; and
         WHEREAS, An accomplished physician and a respected member of
  his community, Dr. Richard Fadal lived a caring and purposeful
  life, and he leaves behind a legacy that will long be treasured by
  all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dr. Richard George
  Fadal and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family:
  to his wife, Margaret Fadal; to his children and their spouses,
  Stacy and Burl Coker, Richard and Jennifer Fadal, Thomas and Tracy
  Fadal, and Michael and Debbie Fadal; to his grandchildren, Dr. Lacy
  Kessler and her husband, Jimmy, Ashley Blossman and her husband,
  Cody, Jennifer Salisbury and her husband, Kurt, Holly Hinojosa and
  her husband, Kyle, Jill Fadal, Christopher Fadal and his wife,
  Stephanie, Tyler Fadal, Kyle Fadal, and Colt Fadal; to his
  great-granddaughter, Katherine Kessler; to his sisters and
  brothers-in-law, Mary and Jack Holstein and Caroline and James
  Hurst; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Richard
  George Fadal.
