R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Destiny Dawn Bailey of John B. Alexander High School
  in Laredo has been named Youth of the Year by the United States
  Border Patrol; and
         WHEREAS, With outstanding grades placing her second in her
  class of more than 560 students, Destiny Bailey is a leader among
  her peers, serving as the president of her class for the past three
  years; an active participant in extracurricular endeavors, she has
  been a part of her school's Interact and President's Clubs, the
  National Honor Society, the Health Occupations Students of America
  organization, and University Interscholastic League competitions
  in journalism and science; and
         WHEREAS, A talented athlete as well, Ms. Bailey ran
  cross-country and track and field, qualifying for the regional
  competitions in her sophomore and junior years and also serving as
  team treasurer; she has learned additional valuable skills through
  her work at an Italian restaurant and a tutoring center; and
         WHEREAS, This notable young Texan has volunteered at the
  Doctors Hospital of Laredo, the South Texas Food Bank, and as a
  tutor, and she has given motivational speeches at elementary
  schools and with the Girl Scouts of Laredo; she has also donated
  many hours as a coach with the National Hispanic Institute, having
  previously been a nationals qualifier in the institute's annual
  debate competition; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Bailey was chosen as Miss Laredo Teen in 2010;
  she will attend Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, in
  the fall, and plans to major in neuroscience; and
         WHEREAS, In all of her endeavors, Ms. Bailey enjoys the love
  and support of her family, including her parents, Harlan E. Bailey
  and Laura Bailey, who have always worked hard to provide her with
  many opportunities, and her siblings, Megan, Naomi, Tiffany, Hope,
  and Cash; and
         WHEREAS, Destiny Bailey can reflect with pride on her
  academic record, extracurricular achievements, and contributions
  to her community, and she may indeed look with anticipation toward a
  promising future; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Destiny Dawn Bailey on her
  selection as the 2011 Youth of the Year by the United States Border
  Patrol and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Bailey as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
