R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Rosendo Hinojosa assumed command of the United
  States Border Patrol Rio Grande Valley Sector on May 3, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, The law enforcement arm of U.S. Customs and Border
  Protection within the Department of Homeland Security, the Border
  Patrol is responsible for detection, apprehension, and deterrence
  of terrorists and terrorist weapons, as well as combating illegal
  immigration; as the senior executive chief patrol agent for the Rio
  Grande Valley area, Chief Hinojosa oversees nearly 2,400 agents
  working in 34 counties; and
         WHEREAS, Chief Hinojosa is well qualified for his new post;
  he has served in the Border Patrol for 25 years, most recently as
  deputy chief patrol agent of the Laredo sector; previously he
  worked at the Border Patrol's headquarters in Washington, D.C., as
  the assistant chief in charge of the National Juvenile Program, and
  from 1997 to 2004 he worked at the McAllen station; and
         WHEREAS, A native of California, Chief Hinojosa moved to
  Texas early in life and grew up in San Carlos, graduating from
  Edinburg High School, and he served in the Marine Corps Reserves in
  the Harlingen Unit; he and his wife of 24 years, Diana, are the
  parents of three sons; and
         WHEREAS, Chief Hinojosa is committed to working with local
  community members and law enforcement, as well as with the
  government of Mexico, to meet the challenges that face the region
  and to use all available resources to ensure that the area is not
  hospitable to criminal activities; this accomplished public
  servant is an outstanding choice to lead Border Patrol activities
  in the Valley, and it is indeed appropriate to take this opportunity
  to recognize him for his professional achievements and to wish him
  well with his new duties; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Rosendo Hinojosa on his
  appointment as senior executive chief patrol agent of the U.S.
  Border Patrol Rio Grande Valley Sector; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Chief Hinojosa as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
