R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Amber Pickens of Dallas has been admitted to The
  Juilliard School, and it is indeed fitting to recognize this
  talented young dancer as she prepares to embark on the next exciting
  chapter of her life; and
         WHEREAS, A senior at Booker T. Washington High School for the
  Performing and Visual Arts in the Dallas Independent School
  District, Ms. Pickens is the only Texan and one of only 12 women
  accepted into the dance division at Juilliard for the 2011-2012
  academic year; she will enter the four-year fine arts program,
  which incorporates a liberal arts curriculum; in addition, she has
  received a fellowship to study at the Alvin Ailey American Dance
  Theater in New York this summer; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Pickens performed in the Repertory Dance Company
  at Booker T. Washington, and she made her acting debut as the Fairy
  Moth in the Dallas Theater Center's production of A Midsummer
  Night's Dream; comfortable in front of the cameras as well as
  onstage, she is featured as a ballerina princess in national
  advertisements for the Make-A-Wish Foundation; and
         WHEREAS, In 2008, the Texas Commission on the Arts selected
  Ms. Pickens as a Texas Young Master of the Arts, and she received a
  three-year annual grant that allowed her to attend classes at the
  Alvin Ailey school; her numerous accolades also include an
  honorable mention from the National Foundation for Advancement in
  the Arts for her achievements in modern and African dance; and
         WHEREAS, With her remarkable talent and commitment to
  excellence, this young Texan can reflect with pride on her
  accomplishments thus far while looking forward to a future bright
  with promise; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Amber Pickens on her acceptance to
  The Juilliard School and extend to her sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Pickens as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
