R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Clifton Fifer, Jr., a Texas history teacher at Hal |
|
Peterson Middle School in Kerrville, received an Outstanding |
|
Educator Award from the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum |
|
on April 14, 2011; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Kerrville, Mr. Fifer graduated |
|
from Tivy High School in 1971 and then attended Howard Payne |
|
University; he returned to Kerrville in 1978 and coached and taught |
|
Texas history for 21 years, subsequently teaching history |
|
full-time; he is retiring after 33 years with the Kerrville |
|
Independent School District in May 2011; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Fifer is known for his skill in bringing the past |
|
to life through storytelling; he and his students cook and dance in |
|
class, and he has participated in historical acting programs, |
|
playing different roles such as a buffalo soldier and a Native |
|
American; he was featured in a storytelling event celebrating |
|
Juneteenth at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum in |
|
2010; and |
|
WHEREAS, Recognized by the presidential library for his |
|
ability to engage both children and adults and to effectively |
|
deliver a message that remains in the mind long afterwards, Mr. |
|
Fifer received his award from former first lady Barbara Bush; and |
|
WHEREAS, During his more than three decades as an educator, |
|
Clifton Fifer has demonstrated remarkable creativity and |
|
initiative, and through his innovative work, concern for students, |
|
and exceptional talent, he has immeasurably enriched the lives of |
|
countless young people; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Clifton Fifer, Jr., on his receipt |
|
of an Outstanding Educator Award from the George Bush Presidential |
|
Library and Museum and extend to him sincere best wishes for a happy |
|
and fulfilling retirement; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Fifer as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
