R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |
|
death of Madeline Cleveland Harris of Houston on September 24, |
|
2009, at the age of 85; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born on July 22, 1924, in Glen Flora to Earl and |
|
Mamie Cleveland, Madeline Harris was a resident of Houston for 67 |
|
years; she married I. B. Harris, and the couple shared a rewarding |
|
life together until his passing in 1970; she was also preceded in |
|
death by her brother, Earl George Cleveland; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Harris enjoyed a notable career in the |
|
insurance field, working for 31 years for The Atlantic Companies |
|
and spending a decade with J. H. Blades and Co.; a member and former |
|
president of the Houston National Association of Insurance Women, |
|
she was honored with the organization's Insurance Professional of |
|
the Year Award in 1990; in addition, Mrs. Harris was a valued member |
|
of St. Stephen's United Methodist Church; and |
|
WHEREAS, Madeline Harris lived a caring and purposeful life, |
|
and cherished memories of time spent in her company will long endure |
|
in the hearts of those who held her dear; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Madeline Cleveland |
|
Harris and extend deepest sympathy to all who mourn her passing. |
