R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Camilo R. Gomez of Houston passed away on December |
|
29, 2010, at the age of 86, leaving his circle of family and friends |
|
with many treasured memories of time spent in his company; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Gomez was born to Gilberto and Candelaria Gomez |
|
in Monclova, Coahuila, Mexico, on July 28, 1924, and lived in |
|
Houston his entire life; in 1943, the same year that he became a |
|
naturalized U.S. citizen, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, and he |
|
served his country with pride until his honorable discharge in |
|
1946; and |
|
WHEREAS, Following his return to civilian life, Mr. Gomez |
|
worked for Star Jewelry and Corrigan Jewelers before opening his |
|
own jewelry manufacturing business; he later expanded Camilo's |
|
Jewelry to include a repair shop and a retail store; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1956, Mr. Gomez married the former Olga |
|
Rodriguez, and they became the proud parents of three daughters, |
|
Gloria Gayle, Olga Louise, and Norma Elena; over the years, the |
|
couple took great delight in seeing their family grow to include |
|
four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Deeply proud of Hispanic culture, Mr. and Mrs. Gomez |
|
sought to foster in their daughters an appreciation of their |
|
heritage, and in keeping with that endeavor, they participated in |
|
Familias Unidas and LULAC; the gregarious couple also enjoyed |
|
hosting parties, barbecues, and a variety of get-togethers, and |
|
they shared their hospitality both at their Houston home and at |
|
their residence at Surfside Beach; in retirement, Mr. Gomez and his |
|
wife relished traveling with friends and family throughout the |
|
nation and abroad; and |
|
WHEREAS, Camilo Gomez left an indelible impression on all who |
|
were privileged to share in the warmth of his love and affection, |
|
and they will forever hold him close in their hearts; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Camilo R. Gomez and |
|
extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his |
|
children and their spouses, Gloria Gayle and Elias Rivas, Olga and |
|
Scott Leonard, and Norma and J. D. McGraw; to his grandchildren, |
|
Virginia Ochoa, Victor Rivas, and Joshua and Kim Leonard; to his |
|
great-grandchildren, Taylor and Thomas Ochoa and Brandon, |
|
Briaunna, and Bella Rivas; to his sister and brother, Stella and |
|
Oscar; and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Camilo |
|
Gomez. |
