R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The death of Edd Kellum Hendee on February 13, 2010, |
|
at the age of 33, brought a great loss to his family and friends in |
|
Houston and beyond; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Dallas on February 19, 1976, to Edd and Nina |
|
Hendee, Edd Hendee grew up in Houston, where his father is a |
|
well-known radio talk show host and the owner of the Taste of Texas |
|
restaurant; the younger Mr. Hendee attended the Second Baptist |
|
School in Houston and the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey; he |
|
suffered a severe leg injury as a young man and was initially denied |
|
acceptance to the United States Naval Academy, but through his |
|
tireless efforts, he made a full recovery and went on to graduate |
|
from the academy in 1999; and |
|
WHEREAS, Continuing his education, he earned a master's |
|
degree in English from George Mason University in Virginia and then |
|
served five years in the U.S. Navy; a lieutenant on the USS Denver |
|
during Operation Enduring Freedom, he led boarding teams onto |
|
foreign vessels in search of Al Qaeda; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Hendee subsequently received an MBA from Harvard |
|
University and joined the Starwood Capital Group in Greenwich, |
|
Connecticut, in 2006; he quickly rose to the position of vice |
|
president of acquisitions, presiding over what was thought to be |
|
the largest initial public offering of its day and one of the |
|
largest real estate investment trusts in U.S. history; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Hendee enjoyed the love |
|
and support of his wife, Claudine Moore Hendee, and their three |
|
children, Campbell, Hudson, and Reagan; and |
|
WHEREAS, A man of great spiritual strength, intellect, and |
|
humor, Edd Hendee excelled in each new challenge he took on, whether |
|
engaging in a complex business transaction or an Iron Man |
|
triathlon; though his life was rich in accomplishments, he |
|
considered his family to be his greatest achievement, and his |
|
legacy lives on in the loved ones he leaves behind; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Edd Kellum Hendee |
|
and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his |
|
wife, Claudine Moore Hendee; to his children, Campbell, Hudson, and |
|
Reagan Hendee; to his parents, Edd Campbell Hendee and Nina Johnson |
|
Hendee; to his sisters, Lisa Hendee Blackard and Kristin Hendee |
|
Blackford; to his in-laws, Norma Jean Moore, Gary Lee Moore, Gena |
|
Moore Rush, Gabriella Lee Moore, Chris Kirkland Blackard, Corbin |
|
Blackford, and David Rush; and to his other relatives and friends; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Edd Kellum |
|
Hendee. |
