R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Clymer Lewis Wright, Jr., of Houston, who died on
  January 24, 2011, at the age of 79, gave freely of his time and
  expertise to better his community, and he leaves behind a record of
  service that his loved ones can remember with pride; and
         WHEREAS, Born on July 24, 1931, Clymer Wright was a graduate
  of the University of Southern Mississippi and a veteran of the
  United States Army, in which he served during the Korean War; in the
  mid-1950s, as the editor of the Fort Bend Reporter, he worked with
  the Texas Rangers to rid Fort Bend County and Galveston of organized
  crime and gambling syndicates; he received death threats in the
  process but persevered in spite of the danger; he later published
  newspapers and worked in real estate, and for the past 18 years, he
  was an executive with Aflac Insurance; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Wright was very active in local and national
  politics; in 1968, he was a leader of Texans for Reagan, the effort
  to get then-California governor Ronald Reagan the Republican
  presidential nomination, and he went on to serve as the Texas
  finance chair for Reagan's successful 1980 campaign; he led an
  effort in the early 1990s to place on the ballot a measure limiting
  the terms of Houston's mayor, controller, and council members, and
  the initiative passed with more than 56 percent of the vote; more
  recently, he was instrumental in helping his community association
  win a legal battle to conserve public spaces that had been part of
  the Inwood Forest Golf and Country Club; and
         WHEREAS, Together with his first wife, the former Sandra Jean
  Lee, Mr. Wright shared 34 years and had three children, Cindy,
  Clymer, and Linda; after becoming a widower, he enjoyed 20 years of
  marriage with the former Mary Katherine Sheftall until her death in
  2010; Mr. Wright supported a number of charitable groups over the
  years and was especially devoted to the alumni association of
  Southern Miss; and
         WHEREAS, Known for his compassion and faith, Mr. Wright
  touched the lives of all who were privileged to know him, and he
  will forever hold a treasured place in their hearts; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Clymer Lewis
  Wright, Jr., and extend sincere condolences to the members of his
  family: to his children, Cindy Wright Gabriel Flynn and her
  husband, George, Clymer Wright III and his wife, Toni, and Linda
  Wright Tomasetti and her husband, Barry; to his grandchildren,
  Laura and Julia Gabriel, Christopher Wright, and Barry, Corey, and
  Kerry Tomasetti; to his great-grandson, Nathan Wright; to his
  grandniece, Hayley Millsap; to his sister, Suzanne Gillis; to his
  brother, Michael Wright; and to his other relatives and friends;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Clymer
  Wright, Jr.
