R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Hill Country Shoot-Out Barbeque sponsored by the |
|
|
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10427 Men's Auxiliary is taking place |
|
|
October 14 and 15, 2011, in Leander; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, First held in 2005, the Hill Country Shoot-Out |
|
|
Barbeque began as a gathering of local barbecue cooks and has grown |
|
|
into a popular annual event that draws pit masters from around the |
|
|
state as they contend for the top prize in categories such as |
|
|
brisket, pork spare ribs, and chicken; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In addition to offering good food and friendly |
|
|
competition, the Shoot-Out benefits worthwhile causes in the |
|
|
community; proceeds from past events have supported initiatives |
|
|
such as the VFW Patriot's Pen and Voice of Democracy essay contests |
|
|
and efforts to assist wounded veterans; this year's cook-off will |
|
|
serve as a fund-raiser for the post's scholarship program, which |
|
|
helps deserving Williamson County students to further their |
|
|
educations; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Barbecue is an iconic symbol of Texas culture, and |
|
|
this occasion is certain to offer all those in attendance a fun and |
|
|
memorable experience; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the VFW Post 10427 Men's Auxiliary |
|
|
Hill Country Shoot-Out Barbeque and extend sincere best wishes to |
|
|
the event's organizers, competitors, and participants for an |
|
|
enjoyable cook-off. |
