R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Georgia Doyle Provost of Houston has contributed to
  her fellow citizens for more than half a century as a business and
  civic leader; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Lafayette, Louisiana, Mrs. Provost
  earned her degree from Texas Southern University and pursued
  advanced studies at the University of Houston and the Winona School
  of Professional Photography; and
         WHEREAS, Through her photography studio, Provost &
  Associates, she has chronicled the Houston area since 1948, as well
  as photographed some two million Texans and Louisianans; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Provost has further distinguished herself as a
  community activist and humanitarian; she has long worked to raise
  money for youth and charitable organizations in partnership with
  Alan Helfman of River Oaks Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep, and she is an
  advocate for young African American men; in addition, she has
  shared her time and talents with The Metropolitan Organization and
  the Houston Forward Times; and
         WHEREAS, A proud graduate of TSU, Mrs. Provost has supported
  the school as executive director of the Texas Southern University
  Bayou Bend Alumni and Ex-Students Association and as creator and
  director of the TSU Community Awareness Program; in 1998, she
  established the T. F. Freeman Ministers and Laity Summit and the
  Male Chorus Gospel Extravaganza to raise funds for the TSU debate
  team; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Provost is an active member of Our Mother of
  Mercy Parish, where she serves as president of the parish
  involvement and communication committee, as coordinator of the
  civil rights education classes, and as a member of the Pastoral
  Council; she also gives back to her community of faith as the
  executive director of the Youth for Christ Foundation and Women for
  Christ; and
         WHEREAS, Honored on many occasions, Mrs. Provost has received
  awards for her accomplishments as a businesswoman, as well as for
  her contributions in behalf of youth and the community at large;
  moreover, she has been inducted into the Wall of Honors at the TSU
  School of Technology; and
         WHEREAS, Georgia Provost has worked tirelessly to improve the
  lives of others, setting an outstanding example of community  
  engagement to which others may aspire; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Georgia Doyle Provost for her
  longstanding commitment to the people and city of Houston and
  extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and
  happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Provost as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
