R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Randall Stephenson, chair and CEO of AT&T, is
  receiving the H. Neil Mallon Award from the World Affairs Council of
  Dallas/Fort Worth on September 22, 2011, at a dinner in his honor;
  and
         WHEREAS, Founded in 1951, the World Affairs Council of
  Dallas/Fort Worth is committed to fostering international
  awareness, understanding, and connections and to helping North
  Texans to thrive in the global economy; the council presents its
  annual H. Neil Mallon Award to an individual who has excelled in
  promoting global understanding and in raising the international
  stature of the Metroplex; and
         WHEREAS, Since taking the helm of AT&T in 2007, Randall
  Stephenson has led in solidifying its position as the world's
  largest telecommunications company; in 2008 he oversaw the
  relocation of AT&T corporate headquarters to Dallas, a move that
  has strengthened the area's reputation as a global business center;
  under his leadership, moreover, AT&T continues to support numerous
  philanthropic endeavors, such as AT&T Aspire; the most significant
  education initiative in the company's history, the program is
  focused on securing our nation's ability to compete internationally
  by increasing high school graduation rates and by ensuring that
  high school graduates are prepared to enter the workplace; and
         WHEREAS, A longtime veteran of the telecommunications
  industry, Mr. Stephenson began his career with Southwestern Bell
  Telephone in 1982; his subsequent appointments included those of
  finance director for SBC International and controller for SBC
  Communications; prior to assuming his present post, he served as
  senior executive vice president and chief financial officer of AT&T
  from 2001 to 2004 and as chief operating officer from 2004 to 2007;
  and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Stephenson also currently serves on the board of
  directors of Emerson Electric Company and on the national executive
  board of the Boy Scouts of America; in addition, he is giving
  generously of his time and energy to the United Way of Metropolitan
  Dallas as the chair of its 2011 campaign; and
         WHEREAS, A highly accomplished leader and businessman,
  Randall Stephenson has helped the North Texas region meet the
  challenges of the global economy, and he is indeed worthy of this
  prestigious accolade; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Randall Stephenson on his receipt
  of the 2011 H. Neil Mallon Award and extend to him sincere best
  wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Stephenson as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
