R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Starlett Carter has given generously of her time and
  expertise as a pro bono attorney, greatly benefitting many
  residents of the Dallas area; and
         WHEREAS, An associate with the Dallas office of Weil, Gotshal &
  Manges LLP, Ms. Carter has a diverse corporate practice with a
  focus on private equity transactions; she recently represented Lone
  Star Technologies in its $2.1 billion sale to United States Steel
  Corporation, among other notable achievements, and she is a member
  of the firm's hiring committee; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Carter has represented numerous low-income
  families and individuals through her service with the Dallas
  Volunteer Attorney Program; she has assisted clients with a wide
  range of matters, including divorces, adoptions, asylum
  applications, wills, and contract disputes; selected as a DVAP
  Lend-A-Lawyer in 2010, she dedicated herself solely to pro bono
  matters for a three-month period; and
         WHEREAS, From 2007 to 2011, Ms. Carter received the Weil
  Gotshal Pro Bono Service Award, which recognizes attorneys who have
  done more than 50 hours of pro bono work during the year; her
  contributions have been featured in the State Bar of Texas blog, the
  Dallas Morning News, and DBA Headnotes; a graduate of The
  University of Texas at Austin, she completed her legal studies at
  Harvard Law School in 2006; and
         WHEREAS, Starlett Carter has demonstrated a deep commitment
  to ensuring that all members of the community have access to strong
  legal representation, and she has set an example of civic
  engagement to which others may aspire; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Starlett Carter for her service as a pro
  bono attorney and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Carter as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
