R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, On May 20, 2011, San Antonio attorney and former
  Texas secretary of state Roy R. Barrera, Sr., is celebrating the
  60th anniversary of his State Bar of Texas licensure and his six
  decades in the active practice of law; and
         WHEREAS, Born on January 30, 1927, in San Antonio, Mr.
  Barrera graduated from Texas Tech University in 1945; he went on to
  earn his doctor of jurisprudence degree from St. Mary's University
  School of Law and was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1951; a
  senior partner of Nicholas & Barrera, P.C., this esteemed attorney
  has been named one of the Lone Star State's top 10 criminal lawyers
  by Texas Monthly, and he has also been honored as a distinguished
  law alumnus by St. Mary's University; he served as secretary of
  state in 1968 and 1969 after being appointed to that office by
  Governor John Connally; and
         WHEREAS, A member of the American Bar Association since 1961,
  Mr. Barrera also belongs to the San Antonio Bar Association and is a
  past director, president, and vice president of that organization;
  moreover, he holds membership in the National Association of
  Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers
  Association; in all of his endeavors, he enjoys the love and support
  of his wife, Carmen, and his children, Yolanda, Roy, Gilbert,
  Carmen Alice, and Bobby; and
         WHEREAS, Spending six decades as an admired member of the
  legal profession is an achievement for which Roy Barrera should be
  justifiably proud, and he is indeed deserving of recognition for
  his long and accomplished career; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Roy R. Barrera, Sr., on the 60th
  anniversary of his State Bar of Texas licensure and his six decades
  as a practicing lawyer and extend to him sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Barrera as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
