R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Dale Fontenot is retiring as chief of police of |
|
Lamar University on August 31, 2011, drawing to a close a notable |
|
career in law enforcement that has spanned more than four decades; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Port Arthur, Chief Fontenot went to work |
|
as a deputy sheriff in Jefferson County in 1968; he joined the Lamar |
|
University Police Department two years later as a patrolman, and he |
|
went on to distinguish himself as a sergeant, an investigator, and |
|
assistant chief; he was appointed as chief of police in the |
|
mid-1990s; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of his tenure, Chief Fontenot has |
|
earned the respect and admiration of many people, and he has been |
|
recognized with a 2011 Distinguished Staff Award by the university; |
|
in addition, he has been named a "Star of the Week" by the 100 Club |
|
of Jefferson and Hardin Counties; and |
|
WHEREAS, Chief Fontenot has enjoyed the love and support of |
|
his wife, Kathy, and his brother and fellow law enforcement |
|
professional, Jerry Fontenot; and |
|
WHEREAS, Chief Fontenot's dedication, professionalism, and |
|
commitment to the safety and welfare of the LU community have |
|
greatly benefited his fellow citizens, and he may indeed reflect |
|
with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on the next exciting |
|
chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Chief Dale Fontenot on his |
|
retirement from the Lamar University Police Department and extend |
|
to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Chief Fontenot as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
