R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Hugh L. Brady was named the 2010 Gertrude Shelburne
  Volunteer of the Year by Planned Parenthood of North Texas at the
  board of directors' annual awards luncheon on February 10, 2011;
  and
         WHEREAS, A professor at The University of Texas School of
  Law, Mr. Brady is the director of the school's Legislative
  Lawyering Clinic, which allows students to prepare legislation and
  other materials used by political decision makers; an acknowledged
  expert on the Texas legislative process, he is the editor of Texas
  House Practice, a text on the House Rules; the UT School of Law's
  Student Bar Association chose him as their Adjunct Faculty Member
  of the Year in 2011; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Brady also maintains a law practice in Austin
  with a focus on legislative and appellate law and has provided
  advice on complicated issues to Texas lawmakers of both parties and
  to local officials; in addition, he is a member of the education
  committee of the Institute of Parliamentary and Political Law in
  Ottawa, Canada; and
         WHEREAS, The son of a preacher and a horsewoman, Mr. Brady was
  raised in Jack, Palo Pinto, and Dallas Counties and earned a
  bachelor's degree from Burlington College in Vermont and a juris
  doctorate from Boston University, where he served as the
  editor-in-chief of the school's Public Interest Law Journal; he
  passed the Texas bar exam while in his third year of law school and
  worked for U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Juan Torruella; before
  becoming a lawyer, he was a reporter, political newsletter
  publisher, lobbyist, marketing firm executive, and legislative
  aide; and
         WHEREAS, This accomplished Texan has established himself as a
  leader in his field and an expert in matters that affect all
  residents of the Lone Star State, and his willingness to share his
  expertise to benefit Planned Parenthood ensures that the
  organization and the people it serves have an effective advocate in
  Austin; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Hugh L. Brady on being named the 2010
  Volunteer of the Year by Planned Parenthood of North Texas and
  extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Brady as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
