R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Hugh L. Brady was named the 2010 Gertrude Shelburne |
|
Volunteer of the Year by Planned Parenthood of North Texas at the |
|
board of directors' annual awards luncheon on February 10, 2011; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, A professor at The University of Texas School of |
|
Law, Mr. Brady is the director of the school's Legislative |
|
Lawyering Clinic, which allows students to prepare legislation and |
|
other materials used by political decision makers; an acknowledged |
|
expert on the Texas legislative process, he is the editor of Texas |
|
House Practice, a text on the House Rules; the UT School of Law's |
|
Student Bar Association chose him as their Adjunct Faculty Member |
|
of the Year in 2011; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Brady also maintains a law practice in Austin |
|
with a focus on legislative and appellate law and has provided |
|
advice on complicated issues to Texas lawmakers of both parties and |
|
to local officials; in addition, he is a member of the education |
|
committee of the Institute of Parliamentary and Political Law in |
|
Ottawa, Canada; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of a preacher and a horsewoman, Mr. Brady was |
|
raised in Jack, Palo Pinto, and Dallas Counties and earned a |
|
bachelor's degree from Burlington College in Vermont and a juris |
|
doctorate from Boston University, where he served as the |
|
editor-in-chief of the school's Public Interest Law Journal; he |
|
passed the Texas bar exam while in his third year of law school and |
|
worked for U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Juan Torruella; before |
|
becoming a lawyer, he was a reporter, political newsletter |
|
publisher, lobbyist, marketing firm executive, and legislative |
|
aide; and |
|
WHEREAS, This accomplished Texan has established himself as a |
|
leader in his field and an expert in matters that affect all |
|
residents of the Lone Star State, and his willingness to share his |
|
expertise to benefit Planned Parenthood ensures that the |
|
organization and the people it serves have an effective advocate in |
|
Austin; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Hugh L. Brady on being named the 2010 |
|
Volunteer of the Year by Planned Parenthood of North Texas and |
|
extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Brady as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
