R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Van High School's Way Off Broadway theater company
  won the University Interscholastic League Conference 3A state
  championship at the 85th Annual State One-Act Play Contest on May 9,
  2011; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in 1927, the UIL One-Act Play Contest is the
  largest high school theater competition in the world; every year,
  more than 14,000 high school students in over 1,000 plays
  participate in some 300 contests across the Lone Star State;
  historians consider the league's theater program to be the
  foundation of educational and community theater in Texas; and
         WHEREAS, This was Van High School's eighth trip to the state
  competition in 10 years; under the direction of Larry and Sue
  Wisdom, the Van theater students performed an abridged version of
  William Shakespeare's comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream to take the
  2011 One-Act Play title; in addition, Shawn Thompson and Grayson
  McFarlin were named to the all-star cast, and Josh Cole received
  all-star cast honorable mention; and
         WHEREAS, The winning cast and crew also include Shyanne
  Thompson, Kelsey Covington, Brandon Jones, Marianna Gilbert, Caleb
  Manshack, Ashley Jackson, Susannah Wisdom, Ryan Williams, Ryan
  Ordmandy, Liz Dunn, McCall Sowers, Conner Covington, Weston
  McFarlin, Grace Herrington, Kara Hilton, Alex Baker, and Ulises
  Garcia; and
         WHEREAS, Winning a state championship is the culmination of
  countless hours of hard work and commitment, and these talented
  young Texans may take justifiable pride in their achievement; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Van High School's Way Off Broadway
  theater company on winning the 2011 UIL Conference 3A State One-Act
  Play Contest and extend to all those involved with the production
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Way Off Broadway company as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
