R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Countless lives were touched by the kindness and
  generosity of Gladys Virginia Burton of Moody and Waco, who passed
  away on April 15, 2011, at the age of 95; and
         WHEREAS, Born on October 10, 1915, in McGregor, the former
  Gladys Garrett was the third of six children of Walter and Myrtle
  Garrett; she grew up on a farm and picked cotton to help her family
  weather the Great Depression; after attending Willow Grove School
  for 10 years, she graduated from Moody High School in 1933; and
         WHEREAS, Gladys Garrett married Clarence Miller Burton in
  1936, and the couple shared a devoted union until his passing in
  1971; Mrs. Burton was blessed with two daughters, Rita Kay and Linda
  Beth, and also with three granddaughters and two
  great-granddaughters; her great love for her family revealed itself
  in many ways, not least in the months and years that she served as a
  caregiver for her mother-in-law, her husband, and her younger
  daughter, who predeceased her; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Burton was employed in Moody as a clerk at
  several grocery stores and later worked as a nurse technician at the
  Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, a
  job she enjoyed enormously; she spent two decades at the clinic,
  retiring in 1984; and
         WHEREAS, This treasured woman contributed to her community as
  a lifelong congregant of First Baptist Church, as a board member of
  the Moody Cotton Harvest Festival and the Moody Cemetery
  Association, as a 10-year volunteer with Meals on Wheels, and as a
  member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Friends of the Moody
  Library; her public spirit was also evidenced by her assistance
  with multiple local elections; and
         WHEREAS, In her leisure time, Gladys Burton avidly followed
  college and professional football; she also delighted in holding
  garage sales, playing 42, a game at which she excelled, and creating
  quilts for her family; above all, she loved to travel, and she was
  fortunate to visit many destinations in the United States and
  abroad; and
         WHEREAS, Gladys Burton lived a full, caring, and productive
  life, and those who were privileged to share in her love and
  friendship will forever remember her with great tenderness and
  affection; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Gladys Virginia
  Burton and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family:
  to her daughter, Rita Kay Ross, and her husband, David; to her
  granddaughters, Robin Leigh Ross, Stacy Amanda Maisel and her
  husband, Gary, and Lea Whitney Rozell and her husband, Darren; to
  her great-granddaughters, Amanda Nicole Maisel and Hannah Grace
  Maisel; to her brother, James Garrett; to her son-in-law, Tommy
  Walker, and DiAnn, Drew, and Megan; and to her other relatives and
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Gladys
  Burton.
