R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Specialist
  Andrew J. Roughton of Houston suffered an immeasurable loss with
  the death of this valiant soldier on July 20, 2009, at the age of 21;
  and
         WHEREAS, Assigned to the 4th Battalion, 25th Field Artillery
  (Strike), 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light
  Infantry), Specialist Roughton was mortally wounded in an enemy
  attack while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom in Maydan Shahr,
  Afghanistan; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Mark and Karen Roughton, Andrew Roughton
  was born on March 16, 1988; he graduated from Spring Woods High
  School in 2006 and was awarded a scholarship to Trinity Valley
  Community College; he began a career in the military and became a
  field artillery automated tactical data systems specialist,
  serving as the gunner in an artillery unit Humvee; his decorations
  included the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service
  Medal, and Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star; and
         WHEREAS, A friendly, generous man with a delightfully quirky
  sense of humor, Andrew Roughton endeared himself to countless
  people; he served his country with pride and honor, and although his
  passing has left a void in the lives of his loved ones, they will
  forever carry memories of this heroic young man close in their
  hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Specialist
  Andrew J. Roughton and extend sincere condolences to the members of
  his family: to his wife, Heather Roughton; to his father, Mark
  Roughton; to his grandfather, Curtis Roughton, Sr.; to his
  grandmother, Billie Berecky; to his uncle, Curtis Roughton, Jr.; to
  his stepbrother, Marcus Carpenter; and to his many other relatives
  and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army
  Specialist Andrew J. Roughton.
