R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Harlandale Independent School District has received |
|
|
the 2011 H-E-B Excellence in Education Award for large districts; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The largest monetary recognition program for |
|
|
educators in Texas and one of the largest in the nation, the H-E-B |
|
|
Excellence in Education Awards are presented annually to |
|
|
outstanding teachers, principals, and school districts; taking the |
|
|
top prize among four other finalists in its category, Harlandale |
|
|
ISD will receive $100,000; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Superintendent Robert |
|
|
Jaklich, Harlandale ISD earned "recognized" status from the Texas |
|
|
Education Agency in 2010, and 18 of its 19 campuses have been rated |
|
|
"recognized" or "exemplary"; in addition, the district currently |
|
|
ranks first in San Antonio, based on an index of academic |
|
|
performance and spending, according to the Education Resource |
|
|
Group; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Serving a total of 14,500 students, Harlandale ISD |
|
|
offers a dual language program to more than 700 students and |
|
|
provides prekindergarten classes to some 1,200 children; the |
|
|
district also presents a $500 to $1,000 scholarship to every |
|
|
graduate who pursues higher education; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through their receipt of this prestigious award, |
|
|
Superintendent Jaklich and the trustees, teachers, and |
|
|
administrators of Harlandale Independent School District have been |
|
|
recognized for their skill, hard work, and enduring commitment to |
|
|
the children under their care, and they may indeed take great pride |
|
|
in their achievement; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Harlandale Independent School |
|
|
District on its receipt of the 2011 H-E-B Excellence in Education |
|
|
Award for large districts and extend to the district's trustees, |
|
|
administrators, teachers, and staff sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued success with their important work; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Harlandale ISD as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
