R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |
|
passing of Roy E. Kokel of Waco on February 20, 2011, at the age of |
|
92; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Walburg on August 3, 1918, Mr. Kokel worked |
|
on the family farm as a youngster, picking cotton and raising hogs |
|
and White King pigeons; he served his country in the United States |
|
Air Force during World War II and worked on airplanes; after the |
|
war, he embarked on a career as a barber that spanned more than four |
|
decades, and he built a loyal clientele as co-owner of Diamond Point |
|
Barber Shop; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Kokel shared a rewarding relationship with his |
|
wife, Flora, until her death in 2001; he was devoted to his son, |
|
Roy, and his daughter, Cindy, whom he nicknamed "Bird" after Lady |
|
Bird Johnson; as the years went by, he dedicated himself to his |
|
grandchildren as well, and he played an important role in the lives |
|
of other members of his extended family; his warm, friendly smile |
|
and many kind acts touched the hearts of innumerable people; a man |
|
of faith, he was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although Roy Kokel is deeply missed, memories of his |
|
integrity, compassion, and steadfast love for his family remain to |
|
comfort and inspire those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Roy E. Kokel and |
|
extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |
|
daughter, Cindy Jensen, and her husband, Damian; to his son, Roy E. |
|
Kokel, Jr.; to his brother, Earnest Kokel, Jr.; to his five |
|
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and to his other |
|
relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Roy Kokel. |
