R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The 80th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed
  cause for celebration, and Adolfo Alvarez, Sr., of Pearsall is
  marking this special milestone in his life on May 27, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, Born in 1931 in Harlingen to Gernaro and Dominga
  Alvarez, Adolfo Alvarez, Sr., graduated from Harlingen High School
  in 1950; he then served his country in the United States Army during
  the Korean War; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Alvarez wed Guadalupe Morales Alvarez in 1956,
  and the couple have since shared a rewarding marriage that has
  spanned more than half a century; together they have welcomed nine
  children into their family, Adolfo, Richard, Alfredo, Arturo,
  Albert, Mary Jane, Adriana, Annette, and Alice, as well as 19
  grandchildren and a great-grandchild; and
         WHEREAS, A self-employed businessman since 1973, Mr. Alvarez
  owns auto parts stores in Pearsall, Dilley, and Cotulla; he also
  served his community as a Frio County commissioner for Precinct 3,
  holding office for 16 years between 1980 and 2000; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Alvarez cofounded and served as commander of VFW
  Post No. 9125 and was president of a local council of the League of
  United Latin American Citizens; in addition, he has been involved
  in state politics and Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Pearsall,
  where he has lived for more than three decades; and
         WHEREAS, With his long record of service to his community,
  county, and nation, Adolfo Alvarez may reflect with great
  satisfaction on a lifetime of achievement, and it is a pleasure to
  join his many loved ones in honoring him on this memorable occasion;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Adolfo Alvarez, Sr., on his 80th
  birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Alvarez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
