R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Naomi Showers, a participant in the Texas |
|
Legislative Internship Program (TLIP), has rendered outstanding |
|
service in the office of State Representative Ron Reynolds during |
|
the 82nd Legislative Session; and |
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1990 and administered by the Mickey |
|
Leland Center on World Hunger and Peace at Texas Southern |
|
University, TLIP provides a unique opportunity for students from |
|
Texas colleges and universities to serve as interns in the Texas |
|
Legislature, in state agencies, and in local government offices; |
|
students receive academic credit for participating in the program, |
|
which combines study and research with supervised practical |
|
training; Senator Rodney Ellis serves as a program advisor, and his |
|
office assists with coordinating on-site activities; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Showers earned her bachelor's degree in |
|
political science from Lamar University, where she is currently |
|
pursuing a master's degree in public administration; she previously |
|
gained experience in politics working for the Bill White for Texas |
|
campaign in Jefferson County; she hopes to one day own a public |
|
relations and lobbying firm; and |
|
WHEREAS, During her tenure as a legislative intern, Ms. |
|
Showers has gained invaluable work experience and firsthand |
|
knowledge of the governmental process, while learning more about |
|
the important issues facing citizens of the Lone Star State; and |
|
WHEREAS, This noteworthy young Texan has performed her duties |
|
as a legislative intern with skill and dedication, and she is indeed |
|
deserving of special recognition for her fine work; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Naomi Showers for her service as a |
|
participant in the Texas Legislative Internship Program and extend |
|
to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Showers as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
