R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Jazz Education Inc. is celebrating the grand opening |
|
of the 40 Seasons of Jazz Photo Exhibition in Houston on June 6, |
|
2011; and |
|
WHEREAS, Founded by jazz artist Bubbha Thomas, JEI grew out |
|
of an eight-week summer program for 70 young musicians, which was |
|
supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts; the |
|
nonprofit group today serves more than 30,000 students from |
|
elementary school through college and has won the Barbara Jordan |
|
Award and numerous other accolades; and |
|
WHEREAS, The JEI sponsors several special projects and three |
|
main programs; the Jazz & Poetry Series helps elementary school |
|
children develop an appreciation for music, while the Summer Jazz |
|
Workshop offers young people the opportunity to enhance their |
|
musical knowledge through master classes, lectures, and other |
|
activities; each year, the Houston International Jazz Festival |
|
features a wide range of notable artists; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through its enrichment programs, special projects, |
|
and public events, Jazz Education Inc. has expanded the musical |
|
horizons of innumerable Texans and helped to broaden the audience |
|
for a unique American art form; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Jazz Education Inc. on the occasion of the |
|
grand opening reception for the 40 Seasons of Jazz Photo Exhibition |
|
and extend to all those associated with the organization sincere |
|
best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Jazz Education Inc. as an expression of high regard by |
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
