R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Maricela De Leon has ably served her fellow Texans |
|
during her seven years in the office of State Representative Aaron |
|
Pena; and |
|
WHEREAS, First volunteering for Representative Pena's |
|
campaign in 2002, Ms. De Leon joined his staff the following year, |
|
and she worked as a legislative aide and an assistant before |
|
becoming his chief of staff for the 82nd Legislative Session; she |
|
holds a bachelor's degree in finance and is now a graduate student |
|
who expects to earn her master of public administration degree from |
|
The University of Texas-Pan American in the summer of 2011; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. De Leon planned a Legislative Medal of Honor |
|
ceremony in 2009 to honor Pedro Cano, a World War II veteran from |
|
Hidalgo County, and she has worked with numerous collaborators to |
|
establish a veterans hospital in the Rio Grande Valley; in |
|
addition, she founded an initiative in 2009 that provides |
|
educational tools to elementary schoolchildren in San Carlos, the |
|
town where she was raised; specializing in veterans' issues, |
|
education, and health and human services, she plans to pursue her |
|
law degree and a Ph.D. in public policy and hopes to become a |
|
diplomat; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of her career in state government, |
|
Maricela De Leon has provided vital leadership and assistance in |
|
handling a wide variety of challenging tasks, and it is fitting to |
|
take this opportunity to recognize her for a job well done; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Maricela De Leon for her service in the |
|
office of State Representative Aaron Pena and extend to her sincere |
|
best wishes for continued success in all of her endeavors; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. De Leon as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
