R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Mayra Mendez of Edinburg was selected to participate
  in the 2011 Moreno/Rangel Legislative Leadership Program, and
  during the 82nd Legislative Session, she has ably served her fellow
  Texans as an aide in the office of State Representative Lon Burnam;
  and
         WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Mexican American Legislative
  Leadership Foundation, the program offers outstanding university
  students and recent graduates an opportunity to serve as full-time
  policy interns in the offices of members of the Mexican American
  Legislative Caucus and gain experience working with the Texas
  Legislature; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of Perla Carbajal and David Mendez,
  Mayra Mendez was born in Mexico and has eight younger siblings; she
  came to the United States nearly six years ago but often returns to
  Mexico to visit her family; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Mendez is a student at The University of
  Texas--Pan American in Edinburg and expects to graduate in 2011
  with a bachelor's degree in political science and minors in history
  and legal studies; she plans to attend law school; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of her tenure at the State Capitol,
  Ms. Mendez has been of great assistance to Representative Burnam's
  office, while acquiring knowledge of issues facing citizens of the
  Lone Star State; she has performed her duties as a legislative aide
  with skill, perseverance, and dedication, and she may indeed look
  forward to a rewarding future;
         WHEREAS, Although this session has been extremely
  challenging, Ms. Mendez considers this session a rewarding
  experience that has shaped her perspective on her Hispanic
  heritage.
         WHEREAS, Ms. Mendez greatly appreciates the Mexican American
  Legislative Caucus and Representative Lon Burnam's staff:  Craig
  Adair (aka "Solecito"), Rachel McClure (aka "Señorita"), Matt
  Johnston (aka "Mr. Sunshine"), and Jaime Rivera (aka "Señor
  Jamón"), for this wonderful learning and enriching opportunity; now
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Mayra Mendez as a participant in the 2011
  Moreno/Rangel Legislative Leadership Program and commend her for
  her notable contributions to the legislative process; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Mendez as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
