R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Velma Sue De Leon will begin her service as |
|
president of the Texas Funeral Directors Association in June 2011; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, Ms. |
|
De Leon enrolled at Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service in |
|
Houston in 1991 and became a licensed funeral director the |
|
following year; with her husband, Leon, and her parents, Donaciano |
|
and Consuelo Garza, she established Memorial Funeral Home in San |
|
Juan in 1994, and opened another location in Edinburg in 2003; both |
|
businesses have received multiple awards; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. De Leon has shared her time and talents as the |
|
president of the South Texas Funeral Directors Association and as a |
|
member of many committees of the National Funeral Directors |
|
Association, as a Texas representative, with her husband, at the |
|
NFDA's 2008 conference, as the vice president of the Make-a-Wish |
|
Foundation of the Rio Grande Valley, as an officeholder in two local |
|
chambers of commerce, and as treasurer of the McAllen Sunset Lions |
|
Club; highly respected by her peers, she also has worked with |
|
legislators on issues affecting her profession; and |
|
WHEREAS, The first Hispanic and only the second woman to |
|
serve as president of the association, Velma De Leon has |
|
contributed much to her field, and she brings an impressive record |
|
of achievement and commendable dedication to her new leadership |
|
role; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Velma Sue De Leon on being elected |
|
president of the Texas Funeral Directors Association and extend to |
|
her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. De Leon as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
