R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
  death of Teddy A. Klein of Tomball on May 6, 2011, at the age of 87;
  and
         WHEREAS, Teddy Klein was born in Spring on December 9, 1923,
  to Alex and Rosa Klein; he graduated from Tomball High School and
  The University of Texas at Austin, where he was a member of the Navy
  ROTC, served as president of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity, and was
  part of Beta Gamma Sigma, the University Men's Glee Club, the Silver
  Spurs, and the Longhorn Band; and
         WHEREAS, Following his graduation, Mr. Klein was
  commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy, serving for 18 months
  during World War II; he was a gunnery officer on Admiral William
  Halsey's flagship, the USS New Jersey BB-62, and participated in
  the Iwo Jima and Okinawa campaigns; and
         WHEREAS, Along with his beloved wife, Leora Klein, who
  preceded him in death, he owned Klein Funeral Homes and Memorial
  Parks, a business that had been founded by his father; widely
  respected by his peers, he was a member of the board of the National
  Selected Morticians; his civic contributions included service as
  president of the Tomball Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club and as
  a member of the Tomball Independent School District Board of
  Trustees; in recognition of his accomplishments, he was honored as
  Tomball Citizen of the Year in 1971; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Klein was a lifelong member of the Lutheran
  faith; he was a former chair of Zion Lutheran Church and belonged to
  the board of elders at Salem Lutheran Church; in addition, he was a
  member of the board of missions of the Texas District of the
  Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Hospital Board of Houston, and the
  Good Samaritan Lutheran Home board, which he helped to found; and
         WHEREAS, A devoted family man as well as an admired business
  and community leader, Teddy Klein will be deeply missed, and
  memories of his kind and generous nature will be forever cherished
  by all who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Teddy A. Klein and
  extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
  children, Margaret Cummings, Mark Klein and his wife, Jacqueline,
  Martha Davis and her husband, Gary, and Matt Klein and his wife,
  Kim; to his grandchildren, Stephanie Ashmore and her husband,
  David, Lauren Vogel and her husband, Tom, Angela Blevins and her
  husband, Mason, Heather Jacobs and her husband, Justin, and Hunter,
  Allie, and Leslie Klein; to his great-grandchildren, Lillian and
  McCallan Vogel and Alexander Ashmore; to his siblings, Margie
  Fredrick and her husband, Jim, Rosalie Nelson, Robert Klein and his
  wife, Ruthie, Shirley Harrington and her husband, Hap, A. B. Klein
  and his wife, Elsa, Ida Malina and her husband, Joseph, and Milow
  Klein and his wife, Rhonda; and to his other relatives and friends;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Teddy
  Klein.
