R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Craig E. Ferrell, Jr., is retiring from the Houston
  Police Department on June 30, 2011, bringing to a close a notable
  career in law enforcement that has spanned more than three decades;
  and
         WHEREAS, A deputy director of the Houston Police Department,
  Mr. Ferrell leads the Legal Services unit and serves as
  administrative general counsel; over the years, he has been a
  senior advisor to four Houston police chiefs; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Ferrell has served, additionally, as the
  longtime general counsel for the Major Cities Chiefs Association,
  an organization of police chiefs and sheriffs representing the 70
  largest law enforcement agencies in the United States and Canada;
  and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has made a significant
  contribution to the Houston PD, as well as to law enforcement
  agencies across the country, by providing outstanding leadership
  and legal guidance on matters pertaining to internal policies and
  procedures, disciplinary action, mutual aid agreements, and civil
  litigation; and
         WHEREAS, Before he joined the Legal Services unit in 1990,
  Mr. Ferrell served in the Houston Police Department as a police
  officer, detective, and sergeant; and
         WHEREAS, Craig Ferrell's commitment to excellence and
  devotion to his work have greatly benefited the members of his
  community and his fellow police officers, and he may indeed reflect
  with pride on his many achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Craig E. Ferrell, Jr., on the
  occasion of his retirement from the Houston Police Department and
  extend to him sincere appreciation for his outstanding public
  service; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Ferrell as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
