R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Colbert L. Baker III has contributed greatly to the |
|
residents of the Permian Basin as the founder, president, and chief |
|
operating officer of the Springboard Center in Midland; and |
|
WHEREAS, "Tim" Baker moved to Midland in 1986 and embarked on |
|
a career in chemical dependency counseling; he earned a master's |
|
degree in addiction counseling and became the head of an inpatient |
|
facility that grew into a 75-bed, 24-hour clinic; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1999, Mr. Baker founded the Springboard Center as |
|
a nonprofit organization that would provide counseling to |
|
individuals and families affected by addictive disorders and would |
|
accept clients regardless of their ability to pay; in 2001, the |
|
center received its first grant from the United Way, and in 2008, it |
|
opened an 18-bed residential treatment facility; Springboard |
|
currently has 31 employees and a $1.5 million budget and has served |
|
more than 5,500 people to date; and |
|
WHEREAS, In a career that has spanned more than 25 years, Tim |
|
Baker has helped countless area Texans, and he is indeed deserving |
|
of special recognition for his initiative and leadership; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Tim Baker for his work as founder, |
|
president, and chief operating officer of the Springboard Center in |
|
Midland and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued |
|
success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Baker as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
