R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The football team of Katy High School put together
  yet another exceptional season in 2009, coming within one victory
  of winning the University Interscholastic League 5A Division 2
  state title; and
         WHEREAS, During the regular season, the Tigers lost only one
  game, and at one point they reeled off three successive shutout
  victories during which they outscored their opponents 110 to 0;
  after winning the district title, the team advanced through the
  playoffs with victories over Houston Stratford, Atascocita, La
  Porte, and Clear Springs; in the semifinals, Katy went nose-to-nose
  with New Braunfels High in a dramatic matchup of defensive
  powerhouses and came away with a 14-6 win; the season concluded in
  the championship final, where the Tigers lost a hard-fought game to
  Abilene High School to finish as runner-up; and
         WHEREAS, The team's 14-2 record and thrilling playoff run
  continued the tradition of excellence that has become a hallmark of
  Tiger football; since 2000, the school has claimed four state
  championships and has been a perennial contender for the title,
  reaching the quarterfinal round of the playoffs or beyond each year
  but one; head coach Gary Joseph has guided the program since 2004,
  and his dedication to shaping young lives has helped numerous Katy
  students to reach their full potential, both on and off the field;
  and
         WHEREAS, The hard work and commitment to excellence
  demonstrated by the members of the Katy High School football team
  resulted in a memorable 2009 season, and their accomplishments are
  a source of great pride to their classmates and to their many
  supporters in the community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the Katy High School football team on its
  successful 2009 season and its appearance in the UIL 5A Division 2
  title game and extend to the team's athletes, coaches, and staff
  sincere best wishes for continued achievement; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
