R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, During the 2010 season, the Katy High School |
|
football team upheld its reputation as one of the state's premier |
|
programs, winning 13 consecutive games and advancing to the |
|
quarterfinal round of the University Interscholastic League 5A |
|
Division 1 playoffs; and |
|
WHEREAS, The high-powered Tigers offense scored 44 points or |
|
more in each of its regular season contests while the defense |
|
stonewalled opponents, allowing the team to win by an average of |
|
nearly 38 points per game; in one of its most impressive outings, |
|
Katy claimed the District 19-5A title with a resounding victory |
|
over previously unbeaten Cinco Ranch High on November 6 in the final |
|
game before the playoffs; and |
|
WHEREAS, Continuing its commanding play in the postseason, |
|
the team bested Houston Bellaire and Cypress Fairbanks High Schools |
|
before coming from behind in a closely fought duel with North Shore |
|
High to claim the regional crown; another dramatic showdown ensued |
|
in the quarterfinals against Pearland, the eventual state champion, |
|
with the competitors trading the lead back and forth in the final |
|
minutes before Katy was finally defeated by a score of 38-35; and |
|
WHEREAS, The 2010 season marked the ninth time in school |
|
history that the Tigers went undefeated in the regular season, and |
|
it was the ninth consecutive year that the squad reached the |
|
quarterfinal round of the playoffs; the team's consistent |
|
achievement and numerous state titles have earned Katy High School |
|
the admiration of its fans and the respect of its opponents, and |
|
head coach Gary Joseph and his players may take justifiable pride in |
|
their accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor the Katy High School Tigers on their |
|
success during the 2010 football season and extend to the team's |
|
athletes, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for the future; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
