R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Barbara Schlattman has enhanced the beauty of
  Northwest Houston through her work as founder and chair of the Green
  Medians Steering Committee; and
         WHEREAS, The owner of an award-winning interior design firm,
  Ms. Schlattman and a friend had already planned to plant trees along
  the shoulders of Farm-to-Market Road 1960 when they learned that
  the Texas Department of Transportation had recommended the
  installation of raised medians along an eight-mile stretch of the
  road; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Schlattman altered her idea to take advantage of
  the TxDOT plan, and in 2004, she created the Green Medians Steering
  Committee; working in partnership with the Houston Northwest
  Chamber of Commerce, the committee received permission from TxDOT
  to landscape the medians, as long as committee members agreed to be
  responsible for hiring a landscape architect, arranging for water
  and maintenance, and financing the project; and
         WHEREAS, Under Ms. Schlattman's inspiring leadership, the
  committee has raised more than $500,000 and created the Green
  Medians Joint Powers Board, a consortium of local water districts
  that will water and maintain the green median; the first trees and
  crepe myrtles were planted in March 2011, with the project due to be
  completed in May; and
         WHEREAS, The recipient of Houston Woman magazine's 2010 Gutsy
  Gal Award for her central role in this impressive effort, Barbara
  Schlattman may indeed take great pride in her contribution to her
  community and in the beautiful outcome that her initiative, hard
  work, and perseverance helped to realize; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Barbara Schlattman for her dedicated
  efforts to bring landscaped medians to FM 1960 in Northwest Houston
  and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and
  happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Schlattman as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
