R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Private First |
|
Class Devon Jemail Harris of Mesquite suffered an immeasurable loss |
|
with the death of this valiant soldier on November 27, 2010, at the |
|
age of 24; and |
|
WHEREAS, Assigned to the Brigade Special Troops Battalion, |
|
10th Mountain Division, Private Harris was killed while serving his |
|
country in Afghanistan; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born on July 3, 1986, to Sorainya and Tennyson |
|
Harris, Devon Harris graduated from Skyline High School in 2004 and |
|
went on to attend Southwest Christian College; he was an active |
|
member of the Southern Hills Church of Christ and enjoyed playing |
|
the violin; he hoped to one day become a history teacher; and |
|
WHEREAS, Private Harris joined the army in August 2009, and |
|
his skill and dedication to duty earned him many honors, including |
|
the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism |
|
Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon; and |
|
WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and |
|
women whose love of country inspires them to serve, yet the tragic |
|
death of this brave man is a sobering reminder of the cost of war; |
|
Private Devon Jemail Harris embodied the highest ideals of the U.S. |
|
armed forces, and those who knew him and loved him will forever |
|
carry him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Private |
|
First Class Devon Jemail Harris and extend deepest sympathy to the |
|
members of his family: to his mother, Sorainya Harris; to his father |
|
and stepmother, Tennyson and Felicia Harris; to his brothers, David |
|
Parker and Christopher Johnson; to his sisters, Ashley Harris, |
|
Tiffany Dotson, and Monica Harris Smith; to his stepbrother, |
|
Michael Rufus; to his stepsister, Stephanie Rufus; to his |
|
grandmother, Lula Smith Johnson; and to his other relatives and |
|
many friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Private |
|
First Class Devon Jemail Harris. |
