R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Private First
  Class Devon Jemail Harris of Mesquite suffered an immeasurable loss
  with the death of this valiant soldier on November 27, 2010, at the
  age of 24; and
         WHEREAS, Assigned to the Brigade Special Troops Battalion,
  10th Mountain Division, Private Harris was killed while serving his
  country in Afghanistan; and
         WHEREAS, Born on July 3, 1986, to Sorainya and Tennyson
  Harris, Devon Harris graduated from Skyline High School in 2004 and
  went on to attend Southwest Christian College; he was an active
  member of the Southern Hills Church of Christ and enjoyed playing
  the violin; he hoped to one day become a history teacher; and
         WHEREAS, Private Harris joined the army in August 2009, and
  his skill and dedication to duty earned him many honors, including
  the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism
  Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon; and
         WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and
  women whose love of country inspires them to serve, yet the tragic
  death of this brave man is a sobering reminder of the cost of war;
  Private Devon Jemail Harris embodied the highest ideals of the U.S.
  armed forces, and those who knew him and loved him will forever
  carry him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Private
  First Class Devon Jemail Harris and extend deepest sympathy to the
  members of his family: to his mother, Sorainya Harris; to his father
  and stepmother, Tennyson and Felicia Harris; to his brothers, David
  Parker and Christopher Johnson; to his sisters, Ashley Harris,
  Tiffany Dotson, and Monica Harris Smith; to his stepbrother,
  Michael Rufus; to his stepsister, Stephanie Rufus; to his
  grandmother, Lula Smith Johnson; and to his other relatives and
  many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Private
  First Class Devon Jemail Harris.
