R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The residents of Brazoria County lost a highly
  esteemed physician with the passing of Dr. J. H. Bertheau of Lake
  Jackson on December 2, 2010, at the age of 71; and
         WHEREAS, Intrigued by the practice of medicine from the age
  of 12, Dr. Bertheau graduated from the University of Pennsylvania
  School of Medicine and completed his internship at Hennepin County
  Medical Center in Minneapolis in 1965; he became a diplomate of the
  Board of Medical Examiners the following year and subsequently
  joined the Public Health Service, a branch of the United States
  Navy, which sent him to Fort Worth; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Bertheau later set up a successful family
  medical practice in Lake Jackson, earning a reputation as a caring
  and compassionate physician who truly listened to and made time for
  his patients and who had an excellent knowledge of medicine;
  admired by his colleagues and his community, he served as president
  of the Brazoria County Medical Society as well as Doctor of the Day
  for the Texas Legislature on several occasions; and
         WHEREAS, With a deep commitment to alleviating human
  suffering, he became one of the first doctors to volunteer his
  services at a local community nonprofit providing health care to
  the uninsured; he also supported efforts to obtain medical supplies
  for mission trips to Mexico and Africa through his church and the
  Lake Jackson Rotary Club; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Bertheau was noted for his
  ready smile, his generous spirit, his respect for his patients, and
  his kindness to everyone; he touched many lives as a physician
  through his selfless, empathetic care, and his example of
  dedication to his community will remain a lasting inspiration to
  those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of J. H. Bertheau and
  extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his devoted
  wife of 43 years, Anna; to his daughters, Nicolle Sullivan and her
  husband, Michael; Natasha Campbell and her husband, Clint; and
  Hillary Branham and her husband, Dave; to his son, Torrey Bertheau,
  and his wife, Ginna; to his grandchildren, Rachel, Kyla, and Quinn
  Sullivan and Ashley, Drew, and Anna Kate Branham; to his sister,
  Cindy Bertheau; and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. J. H.
  Bertheau.
