R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Hugh
  Clark Garland of Waco, passed away on April 29, 2011, at the age of
  92; and
         WHEREAS, Clark Garland was born in Waco on July 1, 1918; he
  attended Waco High School, where he was a member of the football
  team; and
         WHEREAS, In 1941, Mr. Garland married his high school
  sweetheart, the former Helen "Jackie" Whitaker, with whom he shared
  a loving relationship that endured for 70 years and raised three
  children, Hugh, Joe, and Jane; and
         WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty during World War
  II, Mr. Garland served in the U.S. Army Air Corps; he later joined
  the Waco Police Department as a patrolman, and during his 14-year
  tenure, he survived being shot in the line of duty; he and his wife
  went on to found Waco Patrol Service and Detective Agency, which
  they owned and operated for more than four decades; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Garland enjoyed spending time outdoors,
  especially going on hunting trips, boating on Lake Waco, and flying
  his own airplane; most of all, he delighted in the company of
  family, which grew to include 8 grandchildren and 12
  great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Although Clark Garland will be deeply missed,
  memories of a life filled with joyful times and meaningful
  accomplishments remain to comfort his family and friends; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Hugh Clark Garland
  and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
  wife, Jackie Garland; to his sons, Hugh Garland, Jr., and his wife,
  Gladys Ann, and Joe Garland and his wife, Kim; to his brother,
  Robert Garland, and his wife, Darilene; to his 8 grandchildren and
  12 great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Hugh Clark
  Garland.
