R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Hugh |
|
|
Clark Garland of Waco, passed away on April 29, 2011, at the age of |
|
|
92; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Clark Garland was born in Waco on July 1, 1918; he |
|
|
attended Waco High School, where he was a member of the football |
|
|
team; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In 1941, Mr. Garland married his high school |
|
|
sweetheart, the former Helen "Jackie" Whitaker, with whom he shared |
|
|
a loving relationship that endured for 70 years and raised three |
|
|
children, Hugh, Joe, and Jane; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty during World War |
|
|
II, Mr. Garland served in the U.S. Army Air Corps; he later joined |
|
|
the Waco Police Department as a patrolman, and during his 14-year |
|
|
tenure, he survived being shot in the line of duty; he and his wife |
|
|
went on to found Waco Patrol Service and Detective Agency, which |
|
|
they owned and operated for more than four decades; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Garland enjoyed spending time outdoors, |
|
|
especially going on hunting trips, boating on Lake Waco, and flying |
|
|
his own airplane; most of all, he delighted in the company of |
|
|
family, which grew to include 8 grandchildren and 12 |
|
|
great-grandchildren; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Although Clark Garland will be deeply missed, |
|
|
memories of a life filled with joyful times and meaningful |
|
|
accomplishments remain to comfort his family and friends; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Hugh Clark Garland |
|
|
and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |
|
|
wife, Jackie Garland; to his sons, Hugh Garland, Jr., and his wife, |
|
|
Gladys Ann, and Joe Garland and his wife, Kim; to his brother, |
|
|
Robert Garland, and his wife, Darilene; to his 8 grandchildren and |
|
|
12 great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Hugh Clark |
|
|
Garland. |
