R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Laverne Townsend of Waco passed away on April 30,
  2011, at the age of 79, leaving her loved ones to cherish their many
  happy memories of time spent in her company; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of Bill and Alice Canon, the former
  Laverne Canon was born on February 9, 1932, in Brownwood; in May
  1954, she wed Darrell Townsend, with whom she had a daughter,
  Carrie, and a son, Bruce; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Townsend worked early in her career as a
  telephone operator and was later employed by Montgomery Ward and
  Word, Inc.; in retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her
  children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and cheering on
  her favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys; she was also a valued and
  longtime member of Lake Shore Drive Church of Christ; and
         WHEREAS, Laverne Townsend lived a rich and purposeful life
  centered around her faith and her family, and she will long be
  fondly remembered by all who were privileged to know her; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Laverne Townsend and
  extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her
  daughter, Carrie Townsend Rodriguez, and her husband, Jimi; to her
  son, Bruce Townsend; to her grandchildren, Brandon and Tyler
  Rodriguez, Heather Warren, and Jarrett and Weston Townsend; to her
  three great-grandchildren; to her brother, William R. Canon; and to
  her other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Laverne
  Townsend.
