R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Robert Washington, Jr., of San Antonio, a respected
  businessman and community leader, passed away on April 6, 2011, at
  the age of 69; and
         WHEREAS, Born on November 17, 1941, Robert Washington grew up
  in Houston, though he spent his summers in San Antonio helping out
  at his cousin's business, the Lewis Funeral Home; he graduated from
  George Washington High School in 1960, and after serving two years
  in the U.S. Army and completing studies at the Commonwealth
  Institute of Funeral Service, he went to work for his cousin
  full-time; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Washington became a skilled embalmer and
  restoration specialist and took over the business as owner and
  general manager following his cousin's death in 1989; through the
  years, he distinguished himself as a capable and wise director who
  was sincerely committed to assisting grieving families during their
  time of loss; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Washington also served his fellow residents as a
  member of the City of San Antonio Zoning Committee in the 1970s, as
  a reliable supporter of the Huston-Tillotson University Choir
  concerts, and as a sponsor of the Miss Queen of Soul and Miss
  Dignity pageants; he was the recipient of several honors, including
  an Outstanding Texan Award from the Texas Legislative Black Caucus,
  an NAACP Award, and a CPS Amazing Energy Award; and
         WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, he enjoyed the love and
  support of his wife, Lois, who worked alongside him at the funeral
  home, and their children, Robert Washington III and Karen
  Washington; and
         WHEREAS, Thoughtful, kind, and unfailingly generous with
  both his time and resources, Robert Washington touched the lives of
  countless San Antonio families, and he leaves behind a legacy that
  will be forever treasured by all those who were privileged to know
  him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Robert Washington,
  Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to
  his wife, Lois Washington; to his daughter, Karen D. Washington; to
  his son, Robert Washington III, and his wife, Kietha; to his
  grandsons, Eric Vaughn and Robert Washington IV; to his sister,
  Celeste Washington; and to his other relatives and many friends;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert
  Washington, Jr.
