R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The life of an admired Texas business leader drew to
  a close with the passing of Frederick Cordingley Hadfield on April
  11, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, "Bud" Hadfield was born in Virginia and spent part
  of his youth in Rhode Island; after serving in the United States
  Merchant Marine during World War II, he arrived in Houston in 1947,
  and it was there that he began his notable achievements as an
  entrepreneur; and
         WHEREAS, Drawing on experience he gained when he published a
  neighborhood newspaper as a teenager, as well as the knowledge he
  learned as a student and instructor of the Dale Carnegie Training
  course, he opened Bud Hadfield Printers; the enterprise later
  evolved into Kwik Kopy Printing, and Mr. Hadfield emerged as an
  influential pioneer in the industry, introducing new technology and
  establishing a large network of franchises that has expanded to 13
  countries; the empire he built now includes a number of related
  brands and is overseen by a parent company, the International
  Center for Entrepreneurial Development, headquartered at the
  Northwest Forest Conference Center in Cypress; and
         WHEREAS, Figuring prominently in Mr. Hadfield's achievements
  was the assistance of his wife and business partner, Mary Hadfield;
  the couple first met in 1958 and went on to enjoy a rewarding
  marriage that spanned 50 years, during which time they raised two
  children and saw their family grow to include five grandchildren;
  and
         WHEREAS, A true American success story, Bud Hadfield had the
  courage and ability not only to realize his own dream but also to
  help thousands of other people excel as franchise owners, and his
  accomplishments will be remembered and respected long into the
  future; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Frederick
  Cordingley Hadfield and extend deepest condolences to the members
  of his family: to his wife, Mary; to his daughter, Katherine
  Denison, and her husband, Pat; to his son, James Hadfield, and his
  wife, Linda; to his grandchildren, Shay, Tate, Reding, Katie, and
  Travis; to his nephew, Rick Hadfield, and his family; and to his
  other relatives, friends, and business associates; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Frederick
  Cordingley Hadfield.
