  H.R. No. 2630

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, The untimely death of Keith Horner on September 3,
2010, at the age of 39, brought a profound loss to the family and
friends of this esteemed Texan; and
WHEREAS, The son of Jimmie and Karen Horner, Keith Horner was
born in Amarillo in 1970 and lettered in football and track at
Amarillo High School; he was a member of Sigma Chi at Texas Tech
University and made many lasting friendships during his college
years; after graduating in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in
marketing, he became an account executive for Staples and resided
in Dallas but maintained his allegiance to Amarillo; he amused his
friends in the Metroplex by mischievously touting his favorite
hometown taco and pizza places as the pinnacle of fine dining; loyal
to his alma mater as well, he kept his nieces and nephew well
supplied with Texas Tech clothing and fan paraphernalia; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Horner was devoted to his family and shared a
wonderful bond with his younger brother, Todd; in their childhood,
he extended big-brotherly kindness to Todd's friends as well and
tried to set a good example for the smaller boys who looked up to
him; as the years went by, he became an adoring uncle to Averie,
Audrie, and Aiden and spent myriad happy hours in their company; his
empathy, enthusiasm, and sense of humor endeared him to numerous
friends, and his high energy level elevated any gathering; a true
sportsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, golfing, skiing,
and dirt biking, and even tried parasailing; naturally, he was the
first of his college buddies to bungee jump over the Guadalupe
River; he also created a signature two-footed shuffle dance that
others strove in vain to imitate; and
WHEREAS, While it is always too soon to say goodbye to a loved
one, Keith Horner left a host of joyful memories behind to be
forever treasured by those who were privileged to share in the
richness of his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Keith Horner and
extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
parents, Jimmie and Karen Horner; to his brother, Todd Horner, and
his wife, Lori; to his nephew, Aiden Horner; to his nieces, Averie
and Audrie Lane; to his grandmother, Arlene Mathews; and to his many
other relatives and friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Keith
  Horner.
