R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The city of Irving lost an admired civic leader and
  volunteer with the death of Carla Hardy Corry Smith, who passed away
  on May 12, 2011, at the age of 67; and
         WHEREAS, Born on January 15, 1944, in Santa Monica,
  California, to Catherine and Sidney Tillman Hardy, Carla Hardy
  attended school in Irving and in South Dakota and then studied at
  the University of Oklahoma; while working at the Dallas Times
  Herald, she met the love of her life, Sam Smith, and the two were
  married in 1965, moving to Irving shortly thereafter; she went on to
  enjoy more than 45 years with her husband and to welcome three
  beloved children, Trinka, Christina, and Craig, as well as six
  grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith generously shared her time and talents
  with a host of organizations and institutions in Irving and Dallas
  County, including Irving Cares, Las Colinas Women's Association,
  Irving Women of Rotary, the Turf Turners Garden Club, the DFW Humane
  Society, the Dallas Museum of Natural History, the Dallas Theater
  Center, and the boards of Lyric Stage, the Irving Schools
  Foundation, the Cultural Affairs Council, the local chapter of the
  United Way, and the Irving Symphony League, which she also served as
  president; moreover, she was a board member and president of the
  PTA, a life member of the Irving Friends of the Library, and the
  president of the League of Women Voters of Irving, and she served
  three terms on the Irving Parks and Recreation Board, helping to
  create a senior citizens center and tennis center, and two terms on
  the Irving Arts Board, including a term as vice chair; and
         WHEREAS, A spirited woman devoted to her family and
  community, Carla Smith lived a caring and purposeful life, and she
  will forever be remembered with great affection by those who were
  privileged to share in her love and friendship; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Carla Hardy Corry
  Smith and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to
  her husband, Sam Smith; to her children, Trinka, Christina, and
  Craig; to her stepfather, Ken Corry; to her grandchildren, Jordan,
  Joshua, Kyle, Katie, Amber, and Zach; to her great-grandchildren,
  Kiah and Noah; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Carla
  Smith.
