R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The year 2011 marks the 100th anniversary of the Del |
|
Rio Police Department; and |
|
WHEREAS, Del Rio's first law enforcement officer, a city |
|
marshal, was hired on December 20, 1911, and in 1913, Del Rio |
|
officially established a public safety department; over the next |
|
two decades, a combination of city marshals, police officers, and |
|
deputy marshals were hired to provide protection to area residents; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Following a reorganization of the city |
|
administration in 1938, a new police department was established, |
|
and R. C. "Red" Hawkins subsequently served as its chief during the |
|
1940s; through the years, the department has been housed in several |
|
locations, including the LULAC building and a station on Broadway |
|
Street downtown; in May 2010, DRPD celebrated the opening of its new |
|
headquarters on Lowe Drive near the city's civic center; and |
|
WHEREAS, Today, under the leadership of Chief of Police |
|
Arnaldo Ramos, the Del Rio Police Department continues to play a |
|
vital role in the life of the community as its officers and support |
|
staff carry a century-long tradition of public service into a new |
|
era of law enforcement; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Del Rio |
|
Police Department and extend to the department's personnel sincere |
|
best wishes for continued success in their important work; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the department as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
