R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The year 2011 marks the 100th anniversary of the Del
  Rio Police Department; and
         WHEREAS, Del Rio's first law enforcement officer, a city
  marshal, was hired on December 20, 1911, and in 1913, Del Rio
  officially established a public safety department; over the next
  two decades, a combination of city marshals, police officers, and
  deputy marshals were hired to provide protection to area residents;
  and
         WHEREAS, Following a reorganization of the city
  administration in 1938, a new police department was established,
  and R. C. "Red" Hawkins subsequently served as its chief during the
  1940s; through the years, the department has been housed in several
  locations, including the LULAC building and a station on Broadway
  Street downtown; in May 2010, DRPD celebrated the opening of its new
  headquarters on Lowe Drive near the city's civic center; and
         WHEREAS, Today, under the leadership of Chief of Police
  Arnaldo Ramos, the Del Rio Police Department continues to play a
  vital role in the life of the community as its officers and support
  staff carry a century-long tradition of public service into a new
  era of law enforcement; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Del Rio
  Police Department and extend to the department's personnel sincere
  best wishes for continued success in their important work; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the department as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
