R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories
  of Melvyn E. Drake of Waco, who passed away on May 5, 2011, at the
  age of 87; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Rosebud to James and Reba Drake on March 28,
  1924, Mel Drake graduated from high school in Ft. Worth and attended
  Texas Christian University; he served in the United States Army Air
  Corps during World War II and retired from State Farm Insurance in
  1999 after a career as a local agent; and
         WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by the love of his life, the
  former Betty Graham, with whom he enjoyed 64 years of marriage;
  together, they raised four daughters, and with the passing years
  the family grew to include eight grandchildren and six
  great-grandchildren; Mr. Drake was a member of Central Christian
  Church in Waco and volunteered in the cardio surgical department
  with the Providence Hospital Auxiliary; and
         WHEREAS, Mel Drake enjoyed a life that was filled with
  meaningful accomplishments, and he is deeply missed by all those
  who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Melvyn E. Drake and
  extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
  daughters, Sherry Ricks and her husband, Henry, Jan Jolly and her
  husband, Allen, Joan Drake, and Tracy Bussey; to his grandchildren,
  David Graves, Lindsay Turner, James Maguire, Caitlin Maguire,
  Jordan Drake, Marley Goodwin, and Luke Bussey; to his six
  great-grandchildren; to his sister, Joyce Norwood, and her husband,
  Joe; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Melvyn E.
  Drake.
