R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The members of First United Methodist Church |
|
|
Richardson are celebrating the 125th anniversary of their church's |
|
|
founding on June 12, 2011; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In 1886, 15 faithful men and women came together to |
|
|
establish the First Methodist Episcopal Church South; members met |
|
|
at Cumberland Presbyterian Church until 1898, when the women of the |
|
|
congregation raised money for an acre of land by selling squares for |
|
|
an autograph quilt; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Today, this notable house of worship serves nearly |
|
|
6,000 members who support a number of worthwhile initiatives, |
|
|
including feeding the homeless, building homes with Habitat for |
|
|
Humanity, and aiding victims of disaster; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Countless area residents have looked to First United |
|
|
Methodist Church Richardson for spiritual enrichment and guidance |
|
|
through the years, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring the |
|
|
church at this special time in its history; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor First United Methodist Church Richardson |
|
|
on the 125th anniversary of its founding and extend to its members |
|
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
