R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Altrusa International, Inc., of Garland won a number
  of notable awards at the 55th Annual Altrusa International, Inc.,
  District Nine Conference held in Dallas from April 29 to May 1,
  2011; and
         WHEREAS, A volunteer service organization, Altrusa
  International, Inc., of Garland draws its membership from women who
  live or work in the Garland and Rowlett communities; its parent
  organization promotes community service through an international
  network of executives and professionals in diverse career
  classifications; Altrusans of Garland are involved in many
  community projects, among them the Future Readers of Garland
  Literacy Program, known as F.R.O.G., the New Beginnings Center for
  abused women and children, and Boxes to Baghdad, which sends care
  packages to members of the military serving in Iraq and
  Afghanistan; moreover, they have raised thousands of dollars for
  such worthy causes as the American Cancer Society and college
  scholarships; and
         WHEREAS, Altrusa of Garland sent 21 members to the 2011
  District Nine Conference and was recognized for having the highest
  percentage of first-time participants; in addition, the
  organization won first place in the Letha H. Brown Governors'
  Literacy Award for its F.R.O.G. program, tutoring, book fairs, and
  Read to Feed program, which encourages reading while raising funds
  to buy animals for impoverished families abroad; the group also
  received awards for its Make a Difference Day program for
  fifth-grade girls and their mothers and for Boxes to Baghdad, as
  well as the Club Communication Award and other honors; and
         WHEREAS, Those individuals who step forward to share their
  time and talents with others are indeed deserving of our profound
  admiration and gratitude, and the members of Altrusa of Garland
  have benefited innumerable people through their tireless efforts;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the members of Altrusa
  International, Inc., of Garland on the awards the organization
  received at the 55th Annual District Nine Conference and commend
  them for their dedication to their community; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
